RACHEL: AN AMERICAN CONSCIENCE

 Wednesday, August 3, 6:30 -9:00 PM

Palatine Public Library, 700 N. North Court,

RACHEL: AN AMERICAN CONSCIENCE is a documentary about a 23 year old American who gave her life defending human rights and freedom two years ago. With her death, Rachel Corrie's work and message became a beacon of hope in a sadly dark world. The movie explores Rachel’s work and that of others working for peace in the Middle East. The movie played to a packed house at its Chicago Premiere.

Yahya Barakat, director of this powerful 90 minute documentary, goes beyond the politics of the Occupation to depict the facts on the ground.

New Chicago ISM Support Group

The International Solidarity Movement is a Palestinian-led movement of Palestinian and internationals that uses nonviolent direct action to challenge and confront the illegal Israeli occupation. Despite ongoing attacks on Palestinians and on Rachel Corrie, Brian Avery, and Tom Hurndall, ISM activities will continue.

Other cities around the U.S. have strong ISM support groups but Chicago does not at this point in time. We invite all interested parties to join us to explore the feasibility of starting a local ISM support group in Chicago. The purpose of a support group would be to recruit, train, partially fund and do local support work for volunteers going to Palestine to work with ISM. Members of a local support group would also engage in solidarity actions with the Palestinian community.
